Media art residencies in Košice

UNESCO

About

Košice – UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts annually invites media artists from all over the world for a two-month residency. The art project created during the residency is then exhibited and presented as part of the international festival of media arts, technology, and digital culture Art & Tech Days. Creative Industry Košice organizes the residency in cooperation with K.A.I.R. – Košice Artists in Residence.

“This residency creates a platform for a media artist from one of the UNESCO Creative Cities, where he/she can further develop his/her own art project. The residency offers the opportunity to create a new project or further work on its development by acquiring a new perspective provided by the current theme of the Art & Tech Days festival.” – Michal Hladký, Director of Creative Industry Košice.

Who can apply?

The open call is designed for media artists who were born, live, or work in one of the UNESCO Creative Cities.

Former residents

  • In 2021, we welcomed the Moscow artist and curator Julia Vergazova. She worked on the Sole-Soil project during her residency, which she presented at the Art & Tech Days 2021 festival. The project focuses on the relationship and interface between the soil and the soles of our shoes.
  • In 2020, we selected Berlin-based artist Abel Korinsky from 115 applicants, who used satellite data from the Starlink constellation from SpaceX in his work. He presented the final work during the fifth year of the Art & Tech Days festival.
  • In 2019, we welcomed the Spanish artist Marc Vilanova, who prepared an exhibition in the Košice synagogue, thanks to which visitors saw what they would not otherwise be able to hear.
