We are announcing an open call for media artists from UNESCO Creative Cities. The deadline to apply for the residency is 30th of June 2020.

Exhibit at an international festival

After its successful pilot year, here comes a follow-up! Košice – UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts offers media artists a two-month stay in Košice in autumn 2020. The art project created during the residency will be exhibited and presented as a part of the international festival of media arts, technology, and digital culture – Art & Tech Days 2020. Applicants are encouraged to think of a project proposal related to/using the space of the Botanical Garden Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice.

"This specific residency seeks to create space for a media artist from one of the UNESCO Creative Cities to develop his/her own artistic project. The residency is an opportunity to create a new project or to continue work on something in development by shifting its perspective and embracing the topic of HUMAN RESPONSIBILITY."

– Michal Hladký, director

Success stories

Spanish artist Marc created an exhibition in Košice that allowed the visitors to see what they couldn’t hear
Marc Vilanova is an artist that works at the intersection of art and technology who came to Košice for a media art residency organized by CIKE in collaboration with K.A.I.R. Košice Artists in Residence. He created a site-specific installation in the Synagogue on Zvonárska street that used a very common object of our everyday life – the fluorescent lamp. Besides light, the lamp produces a constant ultrasound. Using a special microphone he captured those ultrasounds and translated them into audible frequencies which the visitors could hear.
