Webinar on the collaboration between two UNESCO Creative Cities – Košice and Sapporo

The beginning of the year 2021 continues to be marked by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is impossible to say when or whether we will ever be able to travel in the same way we used to. Aside from the pandemic, the topic of the environmental consequences of long-distance travel has become a pressing issue. In such a situation, is it even possible for talented artists across the globe to collaborate with each other and create new works regardless of their geographical location?

A successful way of encouraging international cooperation between artists in this difficult period is the joint project of 9 cities from the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) – Košice being one of them. Thanks to the City to City project, artist Beáta Kolbašovská from Košice had the opportunity to co-create a media artwork with Japanese artist Junichi Oguro. The result of their monthly collaboration was presented during an online vernissage at the beginning of December 2020 and it is currently exhibited in the online gallery created by our partner – the city of Braga – together with artworks created by other participating artists.

On February 15, 2021, there will be an online webinar, during which the authors of the work Reminiscence Path will share their personal experiences with the City to City project. Michal Hladký, Director of Creative Industry Košice (CIKE), will present his vision and experience with developing the field of media art in Košice and supporting mobilities within the cultural and creative industries. Guest speaker Natsumi Ohara will talk about interesting initiatives in Sapporo which are aimed at supporting local artists and creatives.

If you are interested in how international exchanges can be facilitated in times of pandemic and what tools can help artists overcome the difficulties during the COVID-19 crisis, make sure to sign up. Be quick – the number of participants is limited!
