In October, we will welcome an artist and a curator Julia Vergazova from Russia in Košice, whom we have chosen as our new UNESCO resident. Julia studied art in Moscow and Cologne, where she currently works. She addresses predefining the distance between biology, technology, nature, and synthetic intelligence in her artwork. She is also interested in the concept of cyber organisms.

During her two-month-long media art residency in Košice, which is organized in cooperation with KAIR – Košice Artist in Residence, Julia will work on a media art based on the Human Responsibility theme. She will address the Gaia hypothesis, which says our Earth behaves as one huge single superorganism, and the top layer – soil- allows other forms of life to survive on the planet. Her final project on which she will cooperate in the distance with Nikolay Ulyanov should radically transform our relationship towards the Earth’s surface. The piece of art will be presented at the festival Art & Tech Days in November 2021. Creative Industry Košice organizes the festival as a reaction to membership in UNESCO Creative Cities network.
Media art residencies in Košice are supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council.
