What can emerge from the meeting of artificial intelligence, feminist research, the harp, electronics and performance? This year, the international residency City to City: Future of the living connects Košice with the French city of Enghien-les-Bains and brings together two artistic perspectives – Slovak interdisciplinary artist and researcher Dominika Čupková and French musician, performer and composer Laure Brisa.
During their three-month collaboration, they will work both online and in person in both cities. Their shared starting point is the theme Future of the living – exploring the future of how and where we live, how technologies transform our environment, and what kinds of relationships we form with both the natural and artificial worlds.
How Will We Live in a World of Technology?
The residency approaches our living environment through the lens of digital art and asks how technologies are changing the way we perceive, inhabit and share our surroundings. It also opens up questions about the boundaries between human and non-human, as well as between organic and artificial environments.
For Dominika Čupková and Laure Brisa, this creates a shared space that each of them enters through a distinctly different artistic language.
Dominika Čupková: Looking at AI as More Than Just Technology
Dominika Čupková is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher who brings together artificial intelligence, art, design and technology through a feminist lens. Rather than focusing solely on what new technologies are capable of, her work also explores how they influence our perception, decision-making and ideas about the world.
She is the founder of the Institute of Machine Unlearning, a participatory art and research platform examining how algorithmic systems shape perception, action and collective imagination. She is currently pursuing a practice-based doctoral programme at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava.
Her work has been presented in both artistic and research contexts at events and institutions including Ars Electronica, ELISAVA Barcelona, HEAD – Genève, the National Gallery Prague, Parsons School of Design and Lisbon AI Week.
Her approach brings questions into the residency that reach far beyond the technology community: Who creates the systems we use? What do we learn from data and algorithms – and what, on the other hand, might we need to “unlearn” from them?
Laure Brisa: Harp, Voice, Machines and Space
Laure Brisa comes from a very different artistic background. She studied harp and voice at conservatories in Grenoble and Fresnes, and acting at the Institut National Supérieur des Arts du Spectacle in Brussels. After ten years working in theatre, she returned to music and gradually developed her own stage language at the intersection of concert, theatre, performance and sound experimentation.
Her work brings together harp, voice, percussion and machines. She layers these elements live in front of the audience, creating a world that takes shape before their eyes.
This approach was already present on her album Leaving Room and was further developed through the project Des Comètes. She is currently working on a new immersive project, Miroirs.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with artists including Yoann Bourgeois, Flavien Berger, Bonnie Banane and Sarah Murcia, and also composes for film and brands.
From France to Košice
Dominika Čupková and Laure Brisa began collaborating online in September. In October, they will take part in a joint residency phase in Enghien-les-Bains, before moving to Košice in November, where they will work together from 9 to 26 November.
The outcome of their collaborative work will be presented during Art & Tech Days 2026 and will also be shared digitally via the UNESCO Creative Cities of Media Arts platform.
The City to City programme was created within the UNESCO Creative Cities of Media Arts network and connects artists from different cities through international residency collaborations. Košice has been part of the network since 2017, and City to City is one of the activities through which this international connection is put into practice.
